Laura Lynch, Former Member of the Dixie Chicks, Dies

Laura Lynch, a founding member of the country music group The Dixie Chicks, has died in a car crash near El Paso, Texas, on Friday night. She was 65 years old.

Lynch was one of the original members of The Dixie Chicks, along with sisters Emily and Martie Erwin and middle school math teacher Robin Macy. The band formed in 1988 and rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like “Wide Open Spaces”, “Not Ready to Make Nice” and “Goodbye Earl”. They won two Grammy Awards and sold over 20 million albums worldwide.

Lynch played the upright bass in the band from 1990 to 1993. She left the group after a dispute with their record label, Sony Music, over creative control and royalties. She later pursued a solo career as a singer-songwriter and released several albums.

Lynch was also an avid painter and collected art pieces from various genres. She had a cactus-shaped double bass guitar that she displayed at the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.

The cause of the car crash that killed Lynch is still under investigation. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured. The Dixie Chicks issued a statement expressing their condolences to Lynch’s family and friends.

“We are heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Laura Lynch. She was a talented musician, a wonderful person and a true pioneer for women in country music. We will always remember her as part of our family,” the statement read.

The Dixie Chicks are currently on tour to promote their latest album, “Gaslighter”, which features collaborations with artists like Maren Morris, Brandi Carlile and Kacey Musgraves. They have not announced any plans to cancel or postpone their shows due to Lynch’s death.
